These awards recognize dedicated leadership and meaningful service that strengthen the tennis community in Maine. Each award celebrates the passion and effort that keep tennis thriving. Together, MTA Awards honorees represent the heart of tennis: integrity, inclusion, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.
Awarded to the USTA NJTL chapter that showed an exemplary commitment to the sport through tennis. educational programming and community partnerships. The chapter must be a registered NJTL with USTA and must offer tennis and educational programming. The nominated NJTL should also demonstrate partnerships with other local organizations and promote and utilize the 10 and Under Tennis format.
Awarded to the organization that best exemplifies service to the community, service to its members through junior and adult programs and service to the game of tennis.
Awarded to the registered USTA Community Tennis Association that made the greatest impact on its community during the past year through programming, events and partnerships. The nominated CTA must be registered with the USTA. The CTA should offer quality USTA programming with consistent growth in participation and should establish partnerships with other local organizations. The CTA should also demonstrate organization structure and volunteer recruitment.
The Junior Provider of the Year is awarded to an organization or provider who facilitates coaching and promoting the growth of junior tennis. This could be through Junior Team Tennis, local leagues or in-house programs. This should be someone who offers every level of tennis player and embraces diversity and inclusion in their programs. The nominee should also exhibit collaboration with their local tennis community.
The Diversity Champion of the Year is awarded to a person with proven leadership in the promotion of diversity programs and inclusion. This is someone who exemplifies great sportsmanship, enthusiasm and commitment to tennis and someone who is a positive role model to those around them on and off the court.
The Junior Good Sport of the Year Award exists to recognize and celebrate a junior player who exemplifies distinguished sportsmanship throughout the year. This junior is known for their exceptional camaraderie and pleasant demeanor on and off the court.
The Junior Community Impact Award recognizes a player 18 years old or younger who has made a significant impact on their local community through tennis. This junior has volunteered time and talent for the betterment of their community.
League Captains are the largest group of volunteers within the USTA and MTA. The league captain award is given to an outstanding league Captain for work in developing, supporting, and promoting the USTA League Program in Maine.
The lifetime achievement award is given to an individual who has made outstanding lifetime contributions to tennis in Maine and whose dedication and unique passion for tennis inspires others.
The Volunteer of the year award recognizes the gift of time and talent given consistently and unselfishly for the greater good. Often times it is a volunteer parent helping to coach a team, a behind the scenes volunteer downloading match results, or a board member of a non profit facility.
The Park and Recreation Tennis program is a new grassroots tennis program that is providing tennis instruction, equipment and play opportunities through a collaboration of USTA and Park and Rec Departments. This award is recognizing the Recreation Department that participated in some exceptional way, for example: additional program growth over the years, a first time Park and Rec Department participant, an innovative programming idea.
With a career commitment to offering inclusive tennis opportunities to adult players of all abilities, this individual applies their knowledge and experience to bring positive tennis instruction and programming to their community and affiliated organizations. Their passion promotes skill building, good sportsmanship, physical and mental wellbeing, and competitive play through fun and challenging instructional coaching. As a Safe Play certified instructor and dedicated promoter of the sport, this person is the consummate tennis community builder.
